Increasingly we see that the elites in the West do not understand our most basic freedoms. A sharia-compliant Supreme Court in Australia awarded an alleged Muslim agitator $100,000 in damages for newspaper coverage of his attendance of a violent, anti-free speech riot in 2012. This sharia-inspired ruling will have a chilling effect on what little coverage the media pays to Islamic news stories and the role “moderates” play in inciting Muslims to violence and hatred.
Hamza Cheikho, a Muslim in Australia, sued a newspaper for reporting “as one of an angry mob, he took part in a riot.” That’s the basis of the lawsuit. You may recall the violent riots in Australia (and across the world) by Muslims over a silly YouTube video. The riots in Australia got particularly bad.
The newspaper report was accurate. If I sued every time a media outlet printed lies about me, I’d be a billionaire.

The mother of a young child who was seen holding a sign saying “behead all those who insult the prophet” during the Sydney riots has spoken to police, with authorities deeming her children to be safe.
A MAN who participated in Sydney’s Hyde Park Muslim protests in 2012 told a TV interviewer that the person who made a video deemed offensive to the prophet Mohammed, and which sparked the riots when it was posted online, should be beheaded, a court heard yesterday.Hamza Cheikho told the court his quote had been ‘taken out of context’. Moments before he was shown the footage from an ABC news bulletin, Mr Cheikho had told a jury he did not agree anyone who insults Islam should be punished by decapitation.
Cheikho sued the Daily Telegraph.
He was also alleged to have chanted “Obama, Obama, we love Osama”. He claimed he was “defamed” because he “is a follower and not a leader.” What difference could that possibly make?
Mr Cheikho “must take responsibility” for attending the protest and for encouraging others to attend via a post he made on Facebook.The court has heard Mr Cheikho joined in with chanting at the US consulate on the day of the protests when the crowd shouted “Obama, Obama, we love Osama”.
