Obama Admin Lifts Ban on Illegals Entering with “Communicable Diseases of Public Health Significance”

President Obama continues to amaze with his callous disregard for the health and safety of the citizens of the United States and his reckless and cynical open borders policies that guarantee citizens will pay a huge price for his actions. His decisions are truly strange, as if his objective is to damage the country, with little detectable benefit or upside to many of his mandates. It has always been a policy of the United States to protect citizens from communicable diseases. The public cost in treating such diseases is enormous, so there was a very clear and logical reason for vetting new immigrants and preventing entry to those who could infect and spread diseases to the public. That was, and should be, one of the main jobs of the president, to protect the public from unnecessary risk and harm.

Obama seems to think that the more harm and damage the better. Early in his presidency in 2009 he ended the policy of banning people with HIV from entering the U.S., even though we have the highest rate of HIV infection of any developed country in the world. Perhaps that was a nod to the gay lobby, or perhaps a mechanism to help bring this country down, but whatever the reason, it was surly not in the best interest of the citizens nor something that they would have agreed to if asked. But Obama is an arrogant and unfeeling prince, and so his dictates are carried out, regardless of the impact to the people or the harm it may cause. Now he has opened to gates to more immigrants that can and will cause damage to the health and welfare of the nation, and there seems to be no way to prevent it’s implementation.

New Health Risks from Open Immigration

According to a report slated for release on Tuesday, the Obama administration is removing the sexually transmitted diseases chancroid, granuloma inguinale, and lymphogranuloma venereum from the list of diseases that would prevent a non-U.S. citizen from entering the U.S. This means that the only communicable diseases of public health significance that would now bar entry to the United States are tuberculosis, leprosy, syphilis, and gonorrhea. The report is from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS’s), and the author, legal policy analyst Jon Feere, argues that the policy change could have serious public health consequences.
“This change in policy illustrates, once again, that increased immigration is the main goal of the Obama administration, no matter the costs,” he said in a statement. “The administration itself estimates that more people will become infected and that there will be increased health care costs as a result of these changes. But obviously these are considerations that have little relevance for those with an open-border perspective.”
As Feere notes in his report, the Department of Health and Human Services estimates that the cost of lifting the ban on chancroid-, granuloma inguinale-, and lymphogranuloma venereum-infected non-citizens would be less than $100 million annually.
In its rule, the administration argues that the changes represent a modernization of the policy and will allow the physicians who perform the medical exams to “be able to devote more time and training to other, more common and/or more serious health issues.”
The bottom line is the administration seems to have decided that completely open borders are the order of the day, with immigration services hamstrung, and even violent criminal illegals that are ignored or protected from deportation by lax or nonexistent enforcement of laws. In this case, it is even worse because there is no upside for changing the policy except saving some administrative time to vet the immigrants.

Obama has shown time and again that he is uninterested in the welfare of the citizens of this country. And of course if there is a major outbreak of infectious disease due to welcoming in hordes of sick migrants, it is perhaps as important to him as the ingress of Islamic terrorists. Both policy decisions reflect a man who cares little to nothing about the lives and well being of those who have given him their trust. He is an empty and ethics free vessel, worthy only of our scorn.
