Unfortunately for him, it is difficult to reassure worried Americans and build trust when he is caught making a provably false statement, specifically related to his daily intelligence briefings.
During the speech, in an effort to seem as if he takes the threat of terrorism seriously, Obama claimed, “For seven years, I’ve confronted this evolving threat each morning in my intelligence briefing.”
However, as Breitbart reports, the Government Accountability Institute has released studies showing that Obama has actually attended less than half of his Presidential Daily Briefs.
The first study, published by the GAI in 2012, revealed that Obama had attended roughly 44 percent of his PDBs between 2009 and 2012.
A second study, released in 2014, revealed that Obama’s pattern of non-attendance at his daily briefings had continued, and in fact had become marginally worse, with an attendance rate dropping to about 41 percent.
There is absolutely no doubt that many of Obama’s PDBs contained vital information regarding the rise and expansion of, as well as known threats and plots in the works by the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
The administration has laughably claimed that Obama doesn’t necessarily have to attend the daily briefings in person, as he receives the information on his iPad.
However, reading a few short summations on an iPad is not an acceptable replacement for personally hearing a detailed intelligence report, where one can engage in questions and answers.
President Obama blatantly lied during his prime-time speech, as he has attended less than half of the daily intelligence briefings he now claims to rely upon to take the threat of terrorism seriously.
