Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been a harsh critic of Israel especially following the Mavi Marmara affair but now he has expressed a desire to improve relations with Israel. In a conversation with reporters, Erdogan stated today that “the entire region can benefit from normalization.”
Erdogan stressed that normalization between both countries is possible if they will reach a compromise, where Israel would pay compensation to the families of the Turkish citizens who were killed on board the Mavi Marmara ship. Erdogan also demands that Israel remove the siege upon Gaza. However, he explained that rapprochement between the two countries is important and will benefit the whole region.
Last week, it was reported that the well-publicized conflict between Turkey and Russia will lead to the warming up of relations between Jerusalem and Ankara. Political officials urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to advance a compromise with Turkey via a proposal for a pipeline that will lead from Turkey to Israel.
