Scientists Accidentally Discover Efficient Process to Turn CO2 Into Ethanol

Scientists at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee have discovered a chemical reaction to turn CO2 into ethanol, potentially creating a new technology to help avert climate change. Their findings were published in the journal ChemistrySelect.

The researchers were attempting to find a series of chemical reactions that could turn CO2 into a useful fuel, when they realized the first step in their process managed to do it all by itself. The reaction turns CO2 into ethanol, which could in turn be used to power generators and vehicles.

 The tech involves a new combination of copper and carbon arranged into nanospikes on a silicon surface. The nanotechnology allows the reactions to be very precise, with very few contaminants.

"By using common materials, but arranging them with nanotechnology, we figured out how to limit the side reactions and end up with the one thing that we want," said Adam Rondinone.

 

This process has several advantages when compared to other methods of converting CO2 into fuel. The reaction uses common materials like copper and carbon, and it converts the CO2 into ethanol, which is already widely used as a fuel.

Perhaps most importantly, it works at room temperature, which means that it can be started and stopped easily and with little energy cost. This means that this conversion process could be used as temporary energy storage during a lull in renewable energy generation, smoothing out fluctuations in a renewable energy grid.

 A process like this would allow you to consume extra electricity when it's available to make and store as ethanol," said Rondinone. "This could help to balance a grid supplied by intermittent renewable sources."

The researchers plan to further study this process and try and make it more efficient. If they're successful, we just might see large-scale carbon capture using this technique in the near future.

Obama Admin: The Bible, Constitution, Declaration of Independence Are All ‘Sexist’

The Bible, the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are all sexist, according to a course approved by the Defense Department.

In yet another assault on the fabric of our nation, these foundational documents are to blame for “historical influences that allow sexism to continue,” as stated in a presentation by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, a Department of Defense school out of Florida.

 

According to the course, the Bible has “quotes” which can be interpreted as sexist by readers.

The Declaration of Independence is also an historical cause of sexism, as the document refers only to “all men” — not “men and women.”

And the Constitution, the Pentagon argues, is an historical source of sexism because “slaves and women were not included until later in history.”

Of course, members of the Armed Forces take an oath to defend the Constitution — which is, according to the DEOMI course, an “historical influence that allows sexism to continue.”

“The content of the lesson is provided to generate academic discussion concerning how these historical documents have been included in discussions about the topic of sexism,” Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen, a Defense Department spokesman, told The Daily Caller.

But following TheDC’s request for comment, the sexism course — as well as two other courses listed on DEOMI’s website, entitled “Prejudice & Discrimination” and “Racism” — were taken offline.

“This course is currently offline and under revision,” a notice says under all three courses.

  

Asked about the sudden update, Christensen replied, “DEOMI online materials are periodically pulled to review to ensure accuracy and relevance. The racism, sexism and Prejudice & Discrimination are currently undergoing that review process.”

TheDC obtained copies of all three courses prior to their removal.

The “Prejudice & Discrimination” course was recently required for some Navy personnel who work in hospitals and clinics.

In the course, discrimination is divided into two categories: institutional and individual. Institutions can be a source of discrimination, as well as actions — or inaction — made by individuals.

Institutional discrimination, according to the DEOMI course, can be found in employment, education, housing and the military.

Examples of institutional discrimination in employment, according to DEOMI, are education requirements for employment:

  

The course teaches, “Individuals who have been segregated to inferior schools cannot find employment in businesses that hire according to specified credentials that inferior schools do not offer.”

Therefore, when employers institute education qualifications for prospective employees, they are engaging in a form of discrimination.

Academic tests “may have inherent cultural bias,” the presentation argues.

Textbooks also perpetuate discrimination since they “provide little or no information on minority groups, especially minority histories and the contributions that minorities have made to American culture.”

DEOMI teaches students that they can also contribute to discrimination on an individual level.

The presentation asserts individuals can perpetrate discrimination through both active and inactive ways, including “refusing to acknowledge one’s own privilege.”

BREAKING NEWS: JULIAN ASSANGE REPORTEDLY DEAD

Rumors are flying that something sinister happened to Wikleaks’ Julian Assange. According to Fox News, “WikiLeaks said Monday that its founder Julian Assange’s internet link was ‘severed by a state party’ and that ‘appropriate contingency plans’ were activated.”

The website’s announcement came hours the official Wikleaks Twitter account published 3 cryptic Tweets. The messages referenced “Ecuador, Secretary of State John Kerry and the United Kingdom’s Foreign Commonwealth Office. Each tweet was matched with a string of numbers.”

Rumors on Reddit and Twitter said that the numbers triggered a so-called “dead man’s switch,” which could be enacted in case Assange did die. Gizmodo reported that such switches do exist

WikiLeaks hasn’t tweeted anything else about Assange’s internet and how it may have been “severed.”

Three years ago, Wikileaks put 3 files on their website, as an insurance policy for Assange, should something bad happen to him. The keys provide a way for the information to be made to the public, should something happen to Assange. Well Sunday evening, those 3 keys were released, encryption for those files.

Not long after this happened, an anonymous source confirmed that the information provided in the tweet is a sort of confirmation code called an SHA256 hash. With this code one is able to confirm that the integrity of the document is sound.  In essence, it’s a digital chain of custody.  Wikileaks has listed three names associated with these files: John Kerry, Ecuador, and the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

In addition to these tweets, Wikileaks also released a series of encrypted files onto the web as a safeguard.  If anything should happen to Julian Assange, the password to those files will be released to the general public.  One can only assume that the contents of the files are pertaining to the above-mentioned “targets.”

Culture of Concealment in Michigan: Resettlement Agencies Hiding Refugee Latent TB Infection Rates

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, most county health departments in the state, and the local Michigan offices of refugee resettlement agencies are hiding refugee latent tuberculosis (TB) infection rates from the public.

Michigan’s culture of concealment stands in contrast to how several other states deal with latent TB infection rates among refugees.

As Breitbart News reported, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) does not collect latent TB infection rate data from the county health departments and local resettlement agency providers it hires to conduct initial domestic medical screenings for arriving refugees, nor does it acknowledge its clear legal obligation to do so under the Refugee Act of 1980.

“We do not have that data,” MDHHS spokesperson Bob Wheaton told Breitbart News when asked for data on LTBI infection rates based on the entire population of refugees screened.
 
MDHHS has hired several county health departments and, in some counties, private refugee health screen services working in cooperation with local resettlement agencies to conduct initial domestic medical screenings of arriving refugees. Under Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and MDHHS guidelines, every refugee who completes such a screening is tested for latent TB infection.

But MDHHS says neither the counties nor the private refugee health screening services share this data with them, and the counties and private refugee health screening services who have the refugee latent TB infection data refuse to make that information public.

In the case of at least one private refugee health screening service, the Arab American and Chaldean Council, which MDHHS has hired to conduct refugee health screenings in Wayne County, Macomb County, and Oakland County, that data is also not being shared with health departments in those counties. Providing that data to local county health departments is a requirement of the Refugee Act of 1980.
As Breitbart News has reported, a number of states routinely make this important public health data available in annual reports: Minnesota, where the latent TB infection rate among newly arrived refugees in 2014 was 22 percent, Indiana (26 percent),  Arizona (18 percent), Utah (18 percent), Texas (15 percent), and California (12 percent), and Florida (12 percent).

Other states and resettlement agencies have made the data available after repeated requests from Breitbart News: Tennessee (27 percent), Vermont (35 percent), and Idaho (21 percent).

Identifying and treating refugees who arrive with latent TB infection rates is an important element in state and national TB control programs because numerous medical studies, including one conducted at the University of California at San Diego in 2013, have shown that high rates of latent TB infection among resettled refugees pose a public health risk to the general public in communities in which they have resettled.

Latent TB becomes a health risk when it activates into active and infectious TB, a process usually associated with a lowered level of immunity among patients who have latent TB.

Four percent of the general population in the United States has latent TB infection. Ten percent of this group develops active TB at some point in their life.
In contrast, 33 percent of the population in the rest of the world has latent TB infection. When refugees arrive in the United States from other parts of the world with latent TB infection, medical studies suggest that their activation rate is higher than ten percent, due to a number of factors that reduce their immune systems, including crowded living circumstances, failure to initiate or complete latent TB infection medical treatment, and lifestyle choices, such as smoking.

Though it refuses to provide latent TB infection rate data on refugees, Michigan is one of fifteen states for which Breitbart News has obtained data on the number of refugees diagnosed with active TB.
 
All told, 468 refugees have been diagnosed with active TB in these fifteen states:

Minnesota (296), Wisconsin (27), Nebraska (21), Louisiana (21), Michigan (19),  Vermont (17), Colorado (16), Florida (11), Ohio (11 in one county), Idaho (7), Kentucky (9 in one county), North Dakota (4 in one county),  Indiana (4), California (3), and Tennessee, where two refugees have been diagnosed with the very dangerous, multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB.

The vast majority of the more than 4,000 refugees who arrived in Michigan in FY 2016 were resettled in eight counties: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Kent, Ingham, Washtenaw, Calhoun, and Kalamazoo.

MDHHS says it has contracted with the county health departments in Kent County, Calhoun County, and Ingham County to conduct initial domestic medical screenings of refugees resettled in their jurisdictions. It has contracted with the Arab and American Chaldean Council to conduct initial domestic medical screenings in Wayne County, Macomb County, and Oakland County. In September 2015, it switched its contracted refugee health service screener in Washtenaw County from the Washtenaw County Health Department to St. Joseph’s Hospital. In Kalamazoo County, it has contracted with a local private service rather than the Kalamazoo County, according to the Kalamazoo County Health Department.

Breitbart News has contacted all eight county health departments in these counties.

Two counties that conduct their own initial domestic medical screenings of refugees (Kent and Ingham) have refused to provide latent TB refugee health data. One county that conducts its own initial domestic medical screening for refugees (Calhoun) says it will not be able to provide that data until November. The one county that previously conducted its own domestic medical screening of refugees (Washtenaw) says the data is not readily available.
Three of the four counties in which domestic medical screenings of refugees have been conducted by a private service for several years (Oakland, Macomb, and Kalamazoo) tell Breitbart News they do not have latent TB refugee health data in their possession. One of the four counties in which domestic medical screenings of refugees have been conducted by a private service for several years (Wayne County) has not responded to Breitbart News’ inquiries.

In Kent County (Grand Rapids), a longtime destination for refugees from high TB-burden countries, the Kent County Health Department is refusing to offer any public explanation for a huge spike of foreign-born cases of TB in 2011. In that year, the Michigan public health region that includes Kent County, population 602,000, and eleven surrounding rural counties with smaller populations, reported 22 foreign-born cases of active TB. (See page 24 of the 2009-2013 Michigan Tuberculosis Epidemiologic Trends Report, published by the Michigan Department of Community Health.)

Breitbart first asked Kent County about latent TB rates among refugees and the 2011 TB spike on September 10.
One month later, on October 13, after several subsequent email exchanges, a spokesperson for Kent County told Breitbart News, “Due to potential HIPAA concerns identified through our data collection process, the data request is under legal review. We will reply accordingly as soon as possible.”
When Breitbart News responded that HIPAA claims for aggregate data are entirely unwarranted, the spokesperson responded, “We will need your data inquiry processed as a FOIA.We will respond to this inquiry after receipt of a FOIA request.”

It’s a similar story in Macomb, Wayne, Ingham, Calhoun, Washtenaw, and Kalamazoo counties, other primary locations for refugee resettlement in Michigan.

“The data you are requesting is contained in the Federal EDN [Electronic Disease Notification] system, not in any Macomb County system,” a spokeperson for the Macomb County Health Department tells Breitbart News.
“No, that data is not in the Federal EDN system,” Breitbart responded, and posed this follow-up question:

The vendor selected by the state of Michigan to conduct domestic medical screenings in Macomb County, the Arab-American Council, has the data.

According to the Refugee Act of 1980, they are supposed to provide that data to Macomb County Public Health.

Are they providing you that data or not?

Breitbart News has not received a response to that question from the Macomb County Health Department.
In Macomb County, one member of Secure Michigan, a local grassroots group, has repeatedly attempted to contact County Executive Mark Hackel, to no avail:

Here is the timeline on trying to reach out to Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel to see what position he is taking on the refugees coming into Macomb County. I’m sure he is a welcoming partner, since he developed “One Macomb.”

I first left a message for him through one of his assistants back on Sept. 14th.

I called back again on Sept. 21st saying I received no response back on setting up a possible meeting with Mr. Hackel. They said they would again forward my message. I called on Oct. 11th. to say this was my third time calling, and the assistant said I should email Kim Elward, Executive Assistant at the Macomb County Executive Office. I have emailed and still no response to my request from a Secure Michigan spokesperson for a meeting with Mr. Hackel to provide him with the economic, health, and security concerns of refugees being seeded into Macomb County and our state.

“We are no longer the provider for local health refugee screening (as of September 2015),” a spokesperson for the Washtenaw County Public Health Department (Ann Arbor) tells Breitbart News:

Prior to that time we did health screenings and reported to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) as required. The information reported does not necessarily address all of your questions. In addition, our local information is not in a format that can be quickly reported to you within the time frame you requested it. I will provide an update as soon as possible and/or ask you to submit a public information request as needed.

When pressed by Breitbart News to provide latent TB infection rates among arriving refugees during the period Washtenaw County conducted refugee health screenings, the spokesperson said, “We are working to compile this information, where we can, from our records.”

“While I can compile information in response to your request, I will not be able to meet your deadline of 9am EST Friday, Oct 14th,” a spokesperson for the Calhoun County Health Department tells Breitbart News, adding that a response will come “probably not until early November. We are booked solid with Flu clinics currently.”

Wayne County’s director of the Department of Health, Veterans, and Community Wellness, Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, did not respond to Breitbart News’ request for details on latent TB infection rates among arriving refugees in that jurisdiction.

The Ingham County Health Department also did not respond to Breitbart News’ request for details on latent TB infection rates among arriving refugees in their jurisdiction.
 
“Kalamazoo County Health Department does not complete Refugee Medical Screenings, so we do not have the records you have requested. I would recommend reaching out to the State of Michigan (Michigan Department of Health & Human Services) directly for this data,” a spokesperson for the Kalamazoo County Health Department tells Breitbart News.
In contrast to every other Michigan county health department contacted by Breitbart News, Oakland County has been responsive and provided all the available data in its posession, which did not include latent TB infection rates of arriving refugeees because the state contracted health refugee assessment provider, the Arab American Chaldean Council (ACC), whose legal duty it is to provide that data to Oakland County, is apparently is not sharing that data with the county.

Breitbart News has contacted ACC several times but has received no response.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has said he intends to sue the federal government for its resettlement of refugees within the county’s jurisdiction without complying with the Refugee Act of 1980’s consultation clause. That clause requires the federal government and the director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement to consult with executives of state and local governments prior to the resettlement of refugees within their jurisdictions.
“Secure Michigan supports the efforts of Brooks Patterson to protect the citizens of Oakland County, by utilizing the legal system as necessary as necessary based on the gross failure of the refugee industry to consult with the county government while delivering more than 10,000 refugees to the county including recently more than 4% of the national total of unvetted Syrian refugees,” a spokesperson for the local Michigan grassroots group tells Breitbart News:

The situation in Macomb County is different. The county government has been more than complicit in transforming the county via refugees including recently more than 3 percent of the total of national total of unvetted Syrian refugees. The inability for citizens of Macomb County to receive vital refugee health information should be alarming to families with children in schools and to other vulnerable communities. Mental health issues like PTSD are a particular problem for refugee families. Will it take individual citizens as part of a class action lawsuit to pry the health records from the county government?

Many state and local governments around the country exhibit Michigan’s culture of concealment when it comes to reporting both latent TB infection rates among refugees and active TB cases diagnosed among refugees. In fact, the majority of the fifty states currently do not make data on refugee latent TB infection rates or the number of refugees diagnosed with active TB available to the public.

PHOENIX A.Z. (AP) — For months now, rumors have circulated the Internet that individuals were being paid to protest at rallies held by presidential hopeful Donald Trump. Today a man from Trump’s rally in Fountain Hills, Arizona back in March has come forward to say that he was paid to protest the event.

“I was given $3,500 to protest Donald Trump’s rally in Fountain Hills,” said 37-year-old Paul Horner. “I answered a Craigslist ad about a group needing actors for a political event. I interviewed with them and got the part.”

Trump supporters have been claiming that protesters are being paid by the Bernie Sanders’ campaign, but Horner disagrees.

“As for who these people were affiliated with that interviewed me, my guess would be Hillary Clinton’s campaign,” Horner said. “The actual check I received after I was done with the job was from a group called ‘Women Are The Future’. After I was hired, they told me if anyone asked any questions about who I was with or communicated with me in any way, I should start talking about how great Bernie Sanders is.” Horner continued, “It was mostly women in their 60’s at the interview that I went to. Plus, all the people that I communicated with had an AOL email address. No one still has an AOL email address except people that would vote for Hillary Clinton.”

“I knew those weren’t real protesters, they were too organized and smart,” said 59-year-old Tom Downey, a Trump supporter who attended the rally in Fountain Hills. “I knew there was something up when they started shouting all these facts and nonsense like that. The best we could do was just yell and punch em’ and stuff.” Downey continued, “I think we did a good job though. I was shouting at them the whole time, calling them losers, telling them to get a job or go back home to mommy’s house; I got a bunch of high-fives from my fellow Trump supporters. It was a great time.”
When asked about the other protesters at the rally, Horner said he saw most of them during the interview and training for the rally.

“Almost all of the people I was protesting with I had seen at my interview and training class. At the rally, talking with some of them, I learned they only paid Latinos $500, Muslims $600 and African Americans $750. I don’t think they were looking for any Asians. Women and children were paid half of what the men got and illegals received $300 across the board. I think I was paid more than the other protesters because I was white and had taken classes in street fighting and boxing a few years back”

Sarah Bradley, a spokeswoman for Sock It Forward, a group that provides the homeless and those less fortunate with brand new socks told ABC News that she does not understand why Trump protesters would need to be paid.

“I’ll protest that guy for free,” Bradley said. “Trump is creating a place for like-minded, ignorant, bigoted, hate-filled individuals to gather and unite. You wouldn’t have to pay me anything to protest that.” Bradley continued, “Trump supporters are the last kind of people to donate socks to the homeless, they only care about themselves and their white race. I would love the day I ever see a donation from a Trump supporter, I think it would make me change my opinion about them.”

Horner said the group had a mandatory six-hour training class that had to be completed before protesting at Trump’s rally.

“During training we were taught chants to shout like ‘Dump Trump’ and ‘Trump Is A Racist’, things like that. We were told how to respond to anti-Trump comments too. If a Trump supporter said something about how great his wall will be, the Latinos in our group would say, ‘We’re just going to tunnel underneath it.’ They even gave me a shirt to wear at the rally which said ‘F*ck Donald Trump’ along with a sign to hold that said ‘Make America White Again’.”
 
David Mikkelson, founder of Snopes.com, a website known for its biased opinions and inaccurate information they write about stories on the internet in order to generate advertising revenue, told ABC News that he approves of what a story like this is accomplishing.

“You have to understand that when a story like this goes viral, and we spend a minute or two debunking it, we make lots of money. Stories like this have helped put my children through college, buy a new car, a home and even get the Silverback gorilla my wife Barbara always wanted since she was a child,” Mikkleson said. “We claim ‘to provide evidence for such debunkings and confirmation as well‘, but that’s just ridiculous. Do you know how much time that would take? Instead, we just copy and paste parts of the original article into ours, write a couple sentences, and that’s it. I just want to be clear, our website does zero journalism or anything creative, and I’m only telling you this for legal reasons. For example, do you remember that recent article we wrote debunking a story which claimed Scientology lost its tax-exempt status? Did you actually read our story? Who is the name of the person responsible for the hoax? What is the actual website URL? We claim to know it, but no real information is posted by us.” Mikkelson continues, “It is common for us to rewrite a story we’re debunking if we don’t like it. In one recent story of ours, we actually removed a person’s name from the original article and then called him a liar, oh the hypocrisy, but it is so funny at the same time! We also like to post fake, un-funny, juvenile disclaimers supposedly from the site in question and it is our authors, such as Jeff Zarronandia who are responsible for those gems. We tell our readers that the disclaimer is from the story we are debunking, but a simple google search that locates the actual article will show that our disclaimer is 100% fabricated. Sometimes I think that someone should start a company that debunks our debunkings, they could probably make a lot of money,” Mikkelson laughs. “And lots of people complain about our authors attacking websites and their owners for reasons that are 100% proven false, but since we block archive.org it just becomes their word versus ours. Plus, I know for our writers like Kim LaCapria, it is way more fun for them to cause controversy than report the facts; it results in more visitors. Kim LaCapria and Jeff Zarronandia go as far as accusing the site that the story originated from as ‘a clickbait fake news site that infringes the trademark-protected visual elements and domain names of legitimate news outlets in order to generate traffic and drive advertising revenues by creating and spreading entirely false “news” stories‘. The thing that is troubling about these claims and what Snopes and our authors are known for. We don’t list ONE factual piece of evidence to back up our claims; It’s just more of our hack, unethical journalism, and I only tell you this for legal reasons. I think it is business as usual for us to accuse the story we are debunking of spreading malware and viruses, but we never say what website it actually is. I think warning people about a site that could potentially destroy their computer is probably a good idea, and I hope one day to do that kind of ethical journalism, but people will click our ads regardless, bottom line; so why do the extra work? To be honest, I’d say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.”

ABC News reached out to Hillary Clinton’s campaign for comment but did not receive a response.

 Reports of legal troubles for the foundation began last week when USA Supreme reported that a joint FBI-US Attorney probe of The Clinton Foundation is currently underway. The charge is supported by a number of emails recently released byJudicial Watch, which suggest The Clinton Foundation engaged in pay-for-play while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.

“We are a long way from Hillary Clinton sliding into The White House without having some real serious legal problems before this election,” Klein told Hannity.

During his interview, Klein, author of the forthcoming book 

Guilty As Sin, dropped a number of bombshells:
– Klein confirmed that the ongoing investigation is being led by Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Although he was appointed by Barack Obama, Bharara is known as a hard-nosed attorney–and has the track record to prove it. Bharara has successfully prosecuted dozens of Wall Street Executives and powerful politicians, including former New York’s Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who was sent to prison for 12 years on federal corruption charges.

Bharara is reportedly working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and two other District Attorneys, one in Little Rock, Arkansas, and another in Washington D.C.

“This investigation, I would say, is hotter than ever,” Klein told Sean. Klein added that FBI Director James Comey may be seeking to “redeem himself” with a public corruption charge against Hillary after he failed to recommend indictment for her mishandling of classified information.

– According to Klein, Comey and Bharara have been in contact for months on the subject of Hillary Clinton’s public corruption with the Clinton Foundation while she was Secretary of State.

– Sources have confirmed to Klein that Bharara has lined up several witnesses who are willing to testify. According to Klein, at least one of those sources used to work for the Clinton Foundation, and would have first-hand knowledge of any pay-to-play which occurred.

“Your sources are telling you that witnesses were said to be willing to testify that this was a quid pro quo–in other words that she sold access to her office?” Sean asked.
“That’s my understanding from my sourcing,” Klein responded.

– Klein also claims to have spoken to three State Department employees that worked closely with Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State, who personally witnessed her dealing with State Department business.

“They actually overheard her talking on the phone to a donor,” Klein explained. If true, Clinton’s actions would be a violation of a “memorandum of understanding” she signed prior to taking office, in which she promised to the Obama administration that she would not to engage in business connected to the foundation.

“I’m not predicting this is going to happen,” Klein concluded. “All I’m saying is that the heat is on right now. Whether or not it’s going to flame into a real serious law case, who knows. Will Preet Bharara do the right thing? I hope so.”

Russia is ordering all of its officials to fly home any relatives living abroad amid heightened tensions over the prospect of global war, it has been claimed.

Politicians and high-ranking figures are said to have received a warning from president Vladimir Putin to bring their loved-ones home to the 'Motherland', according to local media.

It comes after Putin cancelled a planned visit to France amid a furious row over Moscow's role in the Syrian conflict and just days after it emerged the Kremlin had moved nuclear-capable missiles nearer to the Polish border.

Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has also warned that the world is at a 'dangerous point' due to rising tensions between Russia and the US.

According to the Russian site Znak.com, administration staff, regional administrators, lawmakers of all levels and employees of public corporations have been ordered to take their children out of foreign schools immediately.

Failure to act will see officials jeopardizing their chances of promotion, local media has reported.

The Kremlin has also suspended a series of nuclear pacts, including a symbolic cooperation deal to cut stocks of weapons-grade plutonium. 

Just days ago, it was reported that Russia had moved nuclear-capable missiles near to the Polish border as tensions escalated between the world’s largest nation and the West.

The Iskander missiles sent to Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea between Nato members Poland and Lithuania, are now within range of major Western cities including Berlin.

Polish officials – whose capital Warsaw is potentially threatened – have described the move as of the 'highest concern'. 

RUSSIA TESTS BALLISTIC MISSILES AS TENSIONS BUILD

Russia's military conducted a series of intercontinental ballistic missile tests on Wednesday, the latest flexing of its muscles as tensions with the US spike over Syria.

Russian forces fired a nuclear-capable rocket from a Pacific Fleet submarine in the Sea of Okhotsk north of Japan, state-run RIA Novosti reported.

A Topol missile was shot off from a submarine in the Barents Sea, and a third was launched from an inland site in the north-west of the vast country, Russian agencies reported.

The latest display of might by Moscow - which has been conducting regular military drills since ties with the West slumped in 2014 over Ukraine - comes as tensions have shot up in recent days.

Russia has pulled the plug on a series of deals with the US - including a symbolic disarmament pact between the two nuclear powers to dispose of weapons-grade plutonium - as Washington has halted talks on Syria.

The Kremlin has also moved an air defence missile system and missile cruisers to the war-ravaged country to bolster its forces there.

That comes as the West has accused Moscow of committing potential war crimes in its bombing of rebel-held part of the city of Aleppo in support of an assault by regime forces.

Washington has previously lashed out at Moscow for resorting to alleged "nuclear sabre-rattling" as East-West relations fell to the worst level since the Cold War following Russia's seizure of Crimea from Ukraine in March 2014.

Putin's decision to cancel his Paris visit came a day after French President Francois Hollande said Syrian forces had committed a 'war crime' in the battered city of Aleppo with the support of Russian air strikes.

Putin had been due in Paris on October 19 to inaugurate a spiritual centre at a new Russian Orthodox church near the Eiffel Tower, but Hollande had insisted his Russian counterpart also took part in talks with him about Syria.

The unprecedented cancellation of a visit so close to being finalised is a 'serious step... reminiscent of the Cold War', said Russian foreign policy analyst Fyodor Lukyanov.

'This is part of the broader escalation in the tensions between Russia and the West, and Russia and NATO,' he told AFP.

The Kremlin has also been angered over the banning of the Russian Paralympic team from the Rio Olympics amid claims of state-sponsored doping of its athletes.

Meanwhile, the top advisor to US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has said the FBI is investigating Russia's possible role in hacking thousands of his personal emails.

But Russian officials have vigorously rejected accusations of meddling in the US presidential elections and dismissed allegations that Moscow was behind a series of recent hacks on US institutions. 

Retired Russian Lt. Gen. Evgeny Buzhinsky told the BBC: 'Of course there is a reaction. As far as Russia sees it, as Putin sees it, it is full-scale confrontation on all fronts. If you want a confrontation, you'll get one.

'But it won't be a confrontation that doesn't harm the interests of the United States. You want a confrontation, you'll get one everywhere.'

Earlier this week British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson waded into the row, calling for anti-war campaigners to protest outside the Russian embassy in London.

Johnson said the 'wells of outrage are growing exhausted' and anti-war groups were not expressing sufficient outrage at the conflict in Aleppo.

'Where is the Stop the War Coalition at the moment? Where are they?' he said during a parliamentary debate.
