The lingering debate over the American response to the tragedy that took place on September 11, 2012 at the American embassy in Benghazi, Libya continues more than three years later, with Fox News Channel host, Judge Jeanine Pirro stating that President Barack Obama’s action constitute an impeachable offense, with Pirro claiming that Obama knew that the United State ambassador, Chris Stevens, was in danger and needed additional security, and that Obama ignored such needs. Stevens, along with three other Americans died that night after being attacked by Islamic extremists.
Pirro claimed that Obama made attempts at covering up the details of what actually took place by first claiming that the attack was in response to anti-Islamic video. She also stated that Obama was guilty of tampering with documents, potential witnesses being prevented from testifying and other evidence that was either not made available or changed, comparing the situation to the Watergate scandal. In that case, the impeachment process was underway when Richard Nixon resigned on August 8, 1974. Claiming that the charges against Obama were worse than Nixon’s situation and the case against Bill Clinton, who was impeached for lying under oath in a deposition about a sexual relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
A number of hearings and investigations of the tragedy have found no indication of any impeachable offenses having taken place. In October, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified for 11 hours about her actions in the tragedy, but no criminal actions were uncovered.
