Detroit Mother Is Applauded By Police For Defending Children With Rifle
It was an unthinkable situation. A mother of two was home with the kids while her husband was away when she saw three teenagers breaking down her door on her home surveillance cameras .
The Detroit mother, who remains anonymous to protect her family, tells ABC she, “didn’t have time to get scared,” when she pulled out a loaded rifle to protect her little ones.
In the footage below, you’ll see one of the young men attempt to kick in the door. Just recently, another mother, Semantha Buce shot home intruders to save her newborn.
“I let them know I had a gun once they were in the house. They said, ‘no you don’t,’ so I shot off the first round. I wasn’t feeling anything at the moment, I got scared afterwards,” she says, recalling her mother’s instincts to protect.
The mother then fired a few warning shots, causing the teens to disperse. Then one of the punks picked up a handgun he had dropped and went back into the house. She fired the rifle again and finally the intruders left.
“She did the right thing” says Chief James Craig who was pleased that the mother warned the men about the gun and used it without injuring them.
Her husband, who had given her the gun just a few weeks earlier, is proud of her. “If I hadn’t prepared my wife for this kind of situation, I could have came home to a family that was gone,” he says.
The three teens have been arrested and charged by the authorities.
