COL. Robert L. Howard may have been the toughest American ever to live.
In 1971 he received the Medal of Honor from then President Nixon. But his decorations and service didn’t stop there.
He was the only person to be nominated for the Medal of Honor three different times. The rules state that you can only receive the Medal of Honor once per lifetime.

In one fifty-four month period, he was wounded fourteen times! Bob Howard was the most heavily decorated soldier of the modern era.
It’s men like him that made our country what it is. It’s service like his that should inspire all of us to stand up for our rights and defend our country on a daily basis.
He ultimately succumbed to cancer, and was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in 2009.
