This Strange Object Found by Archaeologists is Dated 800 Years Old, But No One Knows How It Got There

The internet is ablaze with conspiracy theories after a discovery made by archaeologists of an artifact dated 800 years old that appears to be an ancient mobile phone.

Complete with cuneiform writing on its nine buttons, conspiracy websites are reporting that, ‘during archaeological excavations at Fuschl am See, (in Salzburg), Austria, researchers unearthed a mysterious artifact from the thirteenth century with cuneiform writing that strangely resembles a cell phone’.

However, the validity of the phone is beyond the scope of most, as the bulk of these reports seem to come from conspiracy and paranormal websites. People are also pointing out the striking similarity the artifact bares to one cell phone in particular – the ‘indestructible’ Nokia.

Still, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen new technology in an old world setting. Pieces from ancient Greece have been found, for instance, appearing to display laptop computers. Take this sculpture, for instance, entitled “Grave Naiskos of an Enthroned Woman with an Attendant”. While a description of the piece identifies the item held by the attendant as a “shallow chest”, it certainly bares a striking resemblance to today’s technology.

So, is this really an unexplained old world artifact predating modern day technology or a hoax roused up by some bored PhD student? One thing is for sure – we may never know the truth.
